Resumen:
This standard specifies the principles for designing process cells for work with radioactive materials. It is intended for designers, manufacturers and users of such cells, as well as for the relevant public authorities and expert assessors. This standard applies to the design, construction, installation and use of process cells. Process cells as in this standard cannot be walked into. Because of the work and processes carried out in these cells, they are as a rule smaller than 6 m3 and have a concrete shield that is normally smaller than 0,5 m (see Directive 1999/3/EC). This standard does not cover hot cells as in the DIN 25420 series of standards and in DIN 25407-3, as well as hot cells as described in Directive 1999/3/EC. It also does not cover closed work spaces in which gloves are largely used, for which DIN 25412-1 applies. As soon as open radioactive materials are handled in these process cells, the site is then deemed to be a space which is to meet the requirements of the DIN 25425 series, particularly those regarding fire protection. DIN 25422 is to be observed where radioactive materials will be stored in the process cell. The ventilation of the room, as well as that of the process cell shall be such that the requirements regarding air exchange rates, air filtering and air flow are met for both the room and the process cell. The provisions of the Strahlenschutzverordnung (German Radiation Protection Ordinance) apply in addition to the specifications of this standard.
