| Summary: | To obtain reliable data for the prediction of shooting sound levels at a reception point, the sound emission produced by the muzzle blast is needed. The muzzle blast is produced by the propellant gas exhausted from the barrel with supersonic particle speed. The sound propagation of the blast is governed in this phase by non-linear effects until subsonic speed is reached. If the peak sound pressure level are below 154 dB this standard provides ways of obtaining the sound source ernergy and directivity of the muzzle blast in terms of sound exposure. This standard is meant for weapons used in civil shooting ranges and may also be applied to military weapons. |
